Woodridge Lake Winter Movie
From late December 2020 to late March 2021 I recorded video clips nearly every day, capturing the progression of the Winter season from first freeze to the break-up of the ice sheet at the onset of Spring. My inspiration was the simple beauty of the ever-changing landscape that lies just outside my window.
Ranging in length from a few seconds to several minutes, the clips were then assembled in chronological order, with the addition of some supplemental images and video recorded in the previous winter, an exercise of artistic license.
As a full-time, year-round resident of Woodridge Lake, I have come to appreciate and enjoy the unique diversity of every season here. But Winter stands alone, in stark contrast to the other seasons, in its relative quiet. It’s a time when the absence of traffic and hubbub provides an opportunity to just experience the nature of the place with few distractions. Time seems to slow down and pass at a pace that must be more akin to an earlier time, or to a long-passed childhood when we could just live in the moment.
I hope some of that feeling will be experienced by those who watch this.
